The past week or so has seen a number of Caanoo units arrive into the hands of distributers and websites (including, recently, ours!). Some new videos have been made thanks to this. There are also another couple of videos on GPH’s Facebook page.
- EvilDragon, the German distributer, has made a short overview of the console.
- Play-Asia-Rulez has made a video showing their first impressions of the Caanoo.
- openXile (yes, that’s us) has made a video highlighting the Caanoo’s media capabilities.
- Tony Han from GPH has made two new videos. One shows the Rhythmos game, and the other shows KOF playing nicely. See them on the Facebook page.

The Caanoo test/review units have been sent out. EvilDragon has got his, and so has Anarchy, the Spanish distributer. He’s taken some comparison pictures of the Caanoo next to a Wiz, and written some quick impressions of the console. He likes the analog stick and the screen (especially for MAME), but is having trouble with the shoulder buttons. It is not known how much these test units will differ from the retail units, though. Another Spanish board member, moai, has taken some pictures of the Caanoo next to a GP2X.

Following in his tradition of tearing beautiful consoles asunder for our own sick gratification, EvilDragon has posted up a bunch of snaps of the Caanoo wearing nothing but a blush.
Feel free to hit the jump for more examples of this smut, just promise not to tell your parents.

GPH has uploaded a new video to their Facebook page, showing the media functions and menu of the Caanoo. There have been several upgrades since the Wiz, including support for Album art, and backgrounds for the eBook reader.
It seems to me that this might be the first GPH console that actually could replace your media player.
Also, someone at GPH is a fan of Mr. Scruff. Who knew?

GPH’s Caanoo website has gone up, visit it at fungp.com. It gives a specification list, as well as some renders of the console. A list of current Caanoo distributers can also be seen on the website, here.
GPH held a contest on their Facebook page in which people had to guess what accessories the Caanoo would ship with (as part of its base package). They turned out to be:
- Manual CD + PC Manager
- Quick Guide
- USB Cable
- Hand Strap
- EXTRA Stylus pen
In other news, EvilDragon (the German distributer) got a Caanoo review unit. Read more to find out what he thinks of it so far. Our review unit is on its way; expect some testing and a review from Nova.

GPH are planning a worldwide coding competition for their new console, the Caanoo. It is being organised by the Fungp.com manager, Jerry. Unfortunately, Jerry is ‘under a lot of strees’, so GPH would like you to give him a few ideas for competition promotion. Want to suggest something? Go to their Facebook Page. Let’s just hope that this competition actually happens, unlike their last one.
Oh, and see that webpage projected in the picture? That is seemingly the Caanoo’s website, which will be ‘opening soon‘.
Both the Gp2X Spanish Store and PlayAsia have started taking pre-orders for the Caanoo. PlayAsia’s price is the most exciting at $150 (which works out at about £114 with the most basic shipping option) – nearly the price the Wiz was when it stopped being produced!
As you hopefully know, GPH have a Facebook Page. Whilst they could be using it to fully promote the launch and sale of their new console, they instead use it to post quirky and interesting competitions (their own little way of marketing, I suppose ). For example; the person who best describes the meaning of the Caanoo’s ‘symbol pattern’ gets a free Caanoo. The person with the most ‘likes’ on one of their comments gets a free accessory pack. It’s great that GPH are holding such competitions, but maybe the Caanoo units which are available to give away are best given to developers. The Caanoo has an uncertain future; I for one think that it’s vital that as many dev units are given out as possible.

The Caanoo is now available for pre-ordering! EvilDragon’s German store has just opened up its Caanoo section. The unit is priced at a pretty reasonable €149.99 (not including delivery), and if you pre-order now, you’ll get a free game! The name of the game isn’t specified, but it’s presumably one of the Korean commercial games shown in this video. Although it’s the only online store offering pre-orders right now, don’t forget that other shops will be selling the Caanoo (and possibly at a lower price). However, Craig Rothwell, previous UK distributor of GPH consoles, has already mentioned that he will not be stocking the Caanoo. Don’t worry though, nearly all of the other distributors will ship to the UK.
So what are you waiting for? Pre-order now! Choose from White or Blue-Black.
You will get your Caanoo ‘in August’. Update: Caanoos will be in stock on Monday 16 August.
Update 2: The Caanoo is now also available for pre-order at the Spanish store. Various packages are available there, and the console itself is €15 cheaper than at the German store. (Thanks sbock)
Hey guys. Apologies for the dearth of posts from me, I moved house last week and my ISP isn’t hooking me up until next week. Meanwhile I notice Quote has been more than helpful with his posts in my absence, so a massive thank-you goes to him for that.
GPH has been busy posting videos on facebook, and a lot of new ones, including a demonstration of the online game function. All the videos posted thus far can be found here.
I also advise you to check out the GPH Facebook page, as you can ask any question you see fit and get an answer from the team.
