What is OpenXile

OpenXile is a new alternative for finding the best news for open source consoles. Apart from having a dedicated team that seeks to get fresh news at various places, it features a system in which anyone can post their own news.

But why does it exist? Aren’t there other news sources available?

You might be thinking of sites like GP32X.com or the Unofficial Pandora Blog. The truth is we do not compete against any of these sites, we try to complement the info they provide with our own so that the open source community receives the news as soon as possible.

Then how did this site come to be?

Around February 2009, GP32X.com was suffering serious problems. So serious, that they were causing the community to seek an alternative. The backup forums (OpenHandhelds) were resurrected, but it simply was not the same.

So, GP32X member Nova started working on a new forum, an “exile” for those who would not move to the new official forum. The idea was a fresh looking site where members could feel free to discuss just like before, or as close as that, including more systems. However, in April 2009, GP32X Administrator Hando decided to restore the site to it’s former glory, for the delight of the community. And thus, OpenXile’s forums were not needed anymore…

But the site still had usefulness, Nova gathered a team of reliable News Posters, who lurk the forums and other sites in search of interesting information. Although you could also do that, it would consume much of your precious time and mental health. So the team is dedicated to the members of the community that can’t spend much time searching for news.
